Bestla (Old Norse: Bestla) is a giantess (jötunn) and the mother of Odin, Vili, and Vé, making her the maternal grandmother of much of the Æsir pantheon. She is the wife of Borr and the daughter of the giant Bölthorn. Her existence is attested in Gylfaginning as a genealogical figure, and her father Bölthorn is mentioned in the Eddic poem Hávamál (st. 140), where Odin states that he received eighteen runes from ‘the son of Bölthorn, my mother’s father’ — identifying Bestla’s brother as an unnamed giant from whom Odin learned runic wisdom.

Beyond her genealogical role, Bestla has no independent mythological narrative in the surviving primary sources.
