Auðhumla (Old Norse: Auðhumla, also Auðhumbla) is the primordial cow who emerged from the melting ice of Ginnungagap alongside Ymir, at the beginning of creation. Her existence and role are attested in Gylfaginning: four rivers of milk flowed from her udders and sustained Ymir. She herself was sustained by licking the salty rime-ice of Ginnungagap.

Auðhumla’s most cosmologically significant act was her licking of the rime-ice blocks, from which she gradually revealed the shape of a man: on the first day of licking, a man’s hair appeared; on the second, a head; on the third, the complete figure of Búri — the first proto-divine being. This act of creative licking is one of the most distinctive episodes in Norse cosmogony and is attested solely in Gylfaginning.
