This is the sole primary source reference that names Fjörgynn as Frigg’s father, and beyond this single stanza the figure is entirely without narrative, description, or further attestation.

The name Fjörgynn is cognate with the feminine form Fjörgyn, which is used in the Poetic Edda as a synonym for Jörð (Earth) and as a name for Thor’s mother. The relationship between the masculine Fjörgynn and the feminine Fjörgyn — whether they represent two personifications of the same earth-concept in different genders, or are distinct figures — is unresolved in scholarship.
